META, META, More META
The day has come where I am technically unemployed, and also a poor college student. Did I think this day would come so soon? Of course not. But honestly, I love it already. I spent the last week and a half juggling school full-time and working full-time and I truly don't know how people do it without ripping out their scalp. I value my grades and my future a little more than anything else right now, so I made that big decision to leave my job. I will miss my friends who were more like family SO much. I will especially miss the cleaning faculty that spent every morning teaching me more conversational spanish. Yesterday on the phone, my grandma said “just make sure that this is the right decision for you and you have no regrets”. She has always encouraged me to make large decisions on my own and only offers her guidance as a suggestion, and never as an order.
So today, I came home from work, brushed my teeth, took an hour-long hot shower where I cried and reflected on my difficult week, and then I napped for approximately four hours. I feel a weight off of my shoulders, my stress is beginning to melt away as I mentally create a schedule for myself to prioritize my mental health alongside my academic achievements.
Between chugging a Reign Storm and prepping my desk to get started on some studying, I slipped to a page ive bookmarked in my browser. I hate to admit what I opened and I never thought that I would be here..
I opened the product description page for the Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses. And as I try to justify the price tag with “well.. I spent $200 MORE than this when I got my first pair of designer glasses frames in 2018”, I still can’t believe that this product is what has my attention right now. I want to say that this is the result of some moderately engaging social media content that drew me in, but to deny the fact that the tech in these glasses are next level, is INSANITY.
I may never close my trap about the evolution of AI. Seeing Meta integrate an AI assistant within this newer version of wearable technology makes me feel like there is a future with all us walking around like freaking Tony Stark. At the most recent Meta Connect, we can actively see how the evolution of Llama (Meta’s AI engine) is really working to keep up with the needs of everyday people. We want results, and fast. We want conversations, and engagement. We want information, and accuracy.
Is Meta a buy for me right now? Do I see a future with this company as they stay one step forward with keeping up with the demand of mixed technology and wearables? Obviously Meta has MUCH larger growth in other aspects of their business, especially in the advertising space. I am personally glad that they’ve diminished their huge push for the metaverse, but in that effort, did they also create the perfect framework for more integration for growth in AI?
The numbers look good for META. Next earnings call is at the end of October. This is the first year that META has ever paid out a dividend, and I actually do not see them taking it back. We’ll see what happens on the 30th!
Until then, buy something from my LTK so that I don’t go completely broke this semester.
Frank.
