Salted Gooey Maple Blondies

These blondies are legitimately bakery quality. The texture melts in your mouth, and the icing is the perfect amount of sweet and savory. Sprinkles of course salt really sets this over the edge!

I baked these blondies as a sleep over dessert item, and I literally ate half of the tray within 30 minutes of taking them out of the oven. I have ZERO shame!

Ingredients:

Dough

½  cup unsalted butter

½  cup granulated sugar

½  cup light brown sugar, packed

¼  cup organic maple syrup

1 large egg, room temperature

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon almond extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

Pinch of coarse sea salt

Icing

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 tablespoons pure maple syrup

½  cup powdered sugar

pinch of Kosher or sea salt

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Grease an 8x8 square pan and line with parchment.

Place butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Let the butter melt and mix frequently for 5-7 minutes, keeping an eye on the color. When the butter turns brown under the foam and the butter smells nutty and fragrant, remove the pot from the heat and immediately pour the brown butter into a medium-large mixing bowl.

Whisk in the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and maple syrup into the brown butter. Mix in egg and vanilla, almond, followed by flour, nutmeg and salt.

Spread the blondie batter in the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is a light golden brown. Let blondies cool for 20 minutes in the pan.

While the blondies cool, brown 2 tbsp butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Repeat the browning process from before. Immediately whisk in the maple syrup, followed by powdered sugar and salt. Whisk until smooth. If you have sugar lumps, let the mix sit for 2-3 minutes and then whisk again until they disappear.

Pour the icing over the blondies and spread evenly with the back of a spoon. Sprinkle with a generous pinch of flaky salt and enjoy!
